MOUNT WAVERLEY, AUSTRALIA – April 7, 2009: Mazda has upped the ante on its support of Australia’s rising young sport stars, adding swimmer Andrew Lauterstein to its impressive stable of Zoom-Zoom Ambassadors.
Lauterstein is one of Australia’s youngest and most successful athletes competing on the world stage.
The 21-year-old Triple Olympic Medallist joins the ranks of radio funny man Andy Lee and rugby union star Lachlan Turner as an official brand ambassador.
Mazda’s new super fish will drive a sporty and compact New Generation Mazda3 SP25. The much-anticipated New Generation Mazda3 range officially launches in Australia this week.
“I am very pleased to be an Ambassador for Mazda,” said Lauterstein. “The New Generation Mazda3 SP25 is a very exciting car and it will suit my lifestyle beautifully. It’s compact, sleek and sexy and it will get me to training reliably and in style.”
Lauterstein’s zippy new car will ensure he meets the hectic new training schedule that will ready him for his next competition – the 2009 World Championships in Rome in July – where he will represent Australia in four events; the 50 and 100m Butterfly, the 4x100m Freestyle relay and the 4x100m Medley relay.
An integral part of the Australian swimming team, Lauterstein is the Australian record holder in the 50m Butterfly and Commonwealth record holder in the 100m Butterfly.
Originally from Melbourne, Lauterstein recently located to Sydney to join Australia’s elite ‘Super Squad’, training alongside Eamon Sullivan, Libby Trickett and Geoff Huegill.
“As well as making great cars, what also appealed to me was Mazda’s association with sport and community events. Sponsorships like these enable me to pursue my dream of competing at the highest level. I’m very proud to be a part of the Mazda team,” said Lauterstein.
Mazda Australia Managing Director Doug Dickson said supporting rising stars like Lauterstein is another way the company gives back to the community for continuing to support its award-winning range of Zoom-Zoom cars.
“Andrew is a very talented young man with a very bright future ahead of him and we are pleased to welcome him as a Mazda Ambassador. His achievements to date are a result of his unwavering commitment to his sport, making him a fine role model for other young Australians.”
Over the years Mazda Australia has sponsored other sporting stars including rugby players Phil Waugh and Peter Hewat, swimmers Giaan Rooney, Ian Thorpe and Michael Klim.
Mazda is a strong supporter of sports in Australia. The top-selling vehicle importer is the major sponsor of the North Melbourne Football Club and the ‘Sleeve Sponsor’ of the New South Wales Waratahs rugby union team.
