2010 Nissan 370Z Convertible Review

This may be Nissan's first graceful convertible. The 350Z convertible looked very much like a hatchet job, executed after the hatchback coupe was designed. The old 300ZX was even worse, with its basket-handle roof bar; the 240SX convertible, from the same era, was another ungainly piece, with its B-pillar stubs.

As much as the 370Z is improved on the outside, it's even better when you're on the inside looking out. The swept-down door panels curb the sitting-in-a-barrel feeling imparted by the old car, and it's great to look out over the sculpted hood. Additionally, Nissan, which only recently cost-cut its way to some of the industry's crappiest interiors (including that of the '04 350Z) has done a handbrake turn, and the new 370Z is a welcome beneficiary. Not only are the door armrest and panels nicely padded, but so are the sides of the console, against which your leg rests. The steering wheel feels great, and Nissan's nav/stereo/trip computer interface is one of the easiest in the business. The seats, which are heated and cooled, have lots of lateral support, but they're also very firm which could feel confining on a long trip...The full review

2009 Nissan 370Z Nismo - Review by Automobile Magazine

If you commanded the Nissan genie to pimp your Z-car, the result would be the second-generation NISMO model now available at dealerships. (The NISMO name stands for Nissan Motorsports International, the prime source of extreme performance parts and special-edition models created by Nissan factory experts for hard core street and track use.) Updates beyond the standard 370Z are 18 extra horsepower, 6 lb-ft more torque, various interior and exterior design touches, a retuned suspension, wider 19-inch forged-aluminum wheels, and Yokohama instead of Bridgestone tires. Even after you add a $780 dealer-installed engine oil cooler, the NISMO package runs only $6980 more than the regular 350Z equipped with a Sport Package.

NECK TORQUING EXTERIOR

The NISMO Z is not for those who prefer slipping through traffic unnoticed. The new nosepiece, which adds about six inches to overall length, includes a prominent chin spoiler and corner canards aimed at improved aerodynamic downforce. Add-on side sill extensions help manage under-car air flow. The new rear appendage is a biplane affair combining a spoiler with a wing. That device in combination with a diffuser panel between the exhaust pipes helps stick the rear tires to the pavement at high speed. Rear-fender slots are purely cosmetic.

The factory claims that there is genuine aero downforce at the felonious velocities this car is capable of achieving. Five color choices are offered-white, silver, black, red, and graphite. After exposure to one red and one silver NISMO Z, we highly recommend the red choice unless your driving record is already under assault.

Nissan Skyline GT-R Lambo Doors by LSD Design

LSD Design released information on their new wing (lambo) doors for the Nissan GT-R. The creatively named LSD Flügeltürbeschläge, which is not actually a good choice for a "safe word" with your dominatrix, is one more step in the quest by aftermarket parts makers to customize every Nissan GT-R that comes off the line.

We kid, of course. "Flügeltürbeschläge" loosely translates from German as a more multisyllabic way of saying "fitted wing door." Details

Nissan's Press Release

"Nissan GT-R Snares New Nurburgring Record"

The all-conquering Nissan GT-R supercar has set another lap record at the famous Nurburgring Nordschleife in Germany.

A Japanese specification GT-R, running on Dunlop tyres with RAYS forged alloy wheels (V-spec equipment) recorded a blistering 7min 27.56 secs yesterday.

Although dry, the track surface grip was impaired by dust and sand. Under the direction of Nissan GT-R Chief Vehicle Engineer, Kazutoshi Mizuno, and depending on conditions, the Nissan test team will attempt another record at the ‘Ring tomorrow.

Based on the current generation 370Z Coupe (introduced in January 2009), the Z® Roadster shares its engine, transmissions, suspension, platform and most major components with the popular and exceptionally well-reviewed Z® Coupe. The Best Cheap Car in America - Hyundai Accent GS vs. Nissan Versa Sedan

"The two cars in question are the base versions (or maybe they're the bargain-basement versions) of the Nissan Versa (the Sedan 1.6) and Hyundai Accent (the GS three-door). And their chase to the bottom of the barrel actually has been rather funny to watch. The Accent, by bent of its sheer lack of car-there, was the original occupant of this humble throne. Then Nissan, for some jealous reason, took an eraser to its Versa, replacing its standard 122-horsepower, 1.8-liter engine and six-speed manual with a 107-horse, 1.6-liter coupled to a five-speed and scotched just about every feature unnecessary to the most primitive vehicular motion-plummeting its price $1080 below the Accent's. Indignantly, Hyundai dialed the Accent's price $20 under the Versa's, which is where the battle has stalled. Anybody for unpainted?"

Nissan And Renault Celebrate their 10 Year Anniversary - Birthday Party

Back in the late 1990s, Nissan found itself in quite a predicament. It was suffering from declining sales, burdened by a bloated product catalogue and all but crippled by the Asian economic crisis.

Sound familiar? It should, give or take some details, Nissan was in a similar bind to that faced by America’s major automakers today.

Thankfully Nissan managed to survive its troubles thanks in large part to the intervention of Renault, who on March 27 1999, struck a crucial alliance with the Japanese manufacturer and installed Carlos Ghosn as Chief Operating Officer of the ailing company.

The rest, as they say, is history.

Ghosn initiated a fat-cutting campaign, trimming Nissan’s line-up of unnecessary models, laying off thousands of workers and shutting down several plants, thus earning the France-based Ghosn the nickname “Le Cost-Cutter” in the process.

The Nissan GT-R Vspec Specs (No Pun Intended) and Pictures

This is no normal GT-R. It's Godzilla gone nuclear. Donning lightweight carbon-fiber body parts, no rear seats, GBP36,000-plus world-beating carbon-ceramic brakes, a high gear boost control, unique fixed Bilstein suspension, and ultra-high-performance 20-in. Rays rims and extra-grippy Bridgestone rubber, the new GT-R SpecV certainly looks a lot meaner than the stock GT-R. This coupe is without doubt the most radical roadgoing racer Japan has ever produced. Bar none.

Invited to drive the black beast at the Sendai Highland Raceway, development home of the GT-R in Japan, we rode north from Tokyo on the bullet train for two hours.

Arriving at the raceway, chief engineer Kazutoshi Mizuno greeted us with an animated konichiwa and hurried us into the briefing room for the lowdown on his baby.

Pumping out 478 hp, the SpecV's 3.8L V-6 twin turbo only gets 5 extra horses over the 2008 R35 model. While Mizuno claims the car will do 0 to 60 mph in 3.4 sec and the quarter mile in under 11.5, even with a revised VDC unit that he asks you to "leave on," he tells us his aim was not to add power but to take the car's handling to the next level. And, to tell the truth, the car feels no slower, if not marginally quicker out of the blocks with the VDC on...Continued
